Anastasia's Tip
This beach is open and offers very little natural shade, so I recommend bringing your own umbrella or renting one on site.
Spiaggia di Capriccioli

One of the most iconic beaches of the Costa Smeralda, famous for its fine white sand, crystal-clear waters, and small coves surrounded by granite rocks and Mediterranean vegetation. Perfect for swimming and relaxing in a stunning natural setting.

By car: approximately 35 minutes from Olbia
Anastasia's Tip
Visit early in the morning during peak season. The parking area fills up quickly, and the morning hours offer the most beautiful colors and a more peaceful atmosphere. Or directly after 5/6 pm. Paid parking. Personally, I often prefer nearby Spiaggia del Pirata. there are trees that provide some natural shade.
Cala Moresca
20 km from Olbia center
A small cove surrounded by nature near Golfo Aranci, known for its crystal-clear waters, views of Figarolo Island, and peaceful atmosphere. Perfect for those looking for a more authentic and less crowded beach experience.

Anastasia's Tip
The beach is reached on foot via an unpaved path of about 10 minutes. Leave your car in the Cala Moresca parking area (paid parking).Parking controls are frequent, so avoid parking along the roadside. This is a natural beach with no nearby bars or services, so bring plenty of water and snacks with you.
Porto Istana

A stunning beach famous for its turquoise waters and breathtaking views of Tavolara Island. The soft white sand and shallow sea make it perfect for families, relaxing beach days, and snorkeling.

A very popular beach, especially during summer. It can get crowded and parking can be difficult to find, so arriving early is highly recommended.
Cala Brandinchi
30 km from Olbia center
Often called the “Tahiti of Sardinia,” Cala Brandinchi is famous for its white sand and crystal-clear waters with tropical colors. One of the most beautiful and photographed beaches in northern Sardinia.

Marinella

A wide sandy beach with crystal-clear waters near Porto Rotondo, appreciated for its beautiful sea colors and easily accessible services. Ideal for both couples and families.

Golfo di Orosei
110 km from Olbia city center (Cala Gonone area)
One of the most spectacular stretches of coastline in Sardinia, famous for its wild coves, dramatic cliffs, and incredibly clear waters. It is home to iconic beaches such as Cala Luna, Cala Mariolu, and Cala Goloritzé.

To truly experience the Gulf of Orosei, I highly recommend a boat excursion. Many of the most beautiful coves can only be reached by sea or through challenging hiking trails.
Porto Pollo

Famous for its constant winds and crystal-clear waters, Porto Pollo is one of Europe’s top destinations for windsurfing and kitesurfing. The atmosphere is youthful, sporty, and international.

Even if you're not into water sports, it's worth stopping by for the scenery. Watching the surfers at sunset with a drink overlooking the sea is a wonderful experience.
Spiaggia del Principe

Considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the Costa Smeralda, Spiaggia del Principe enchants visitors with its turquoise waters, white sand, and elegant, unspoiled natural surroundings.

Bring water and comfortable shoes. The walk is easy, but under the summer sun it can feel quite hot. The sea colors here are especially stunning around midday.

San Pantaleo

Visit on a Thursday morning to experience the local market. Stop at Caffè Nina in the main square for a drink, then walk up the steps beside the church for a beautiful view of the piazza framed by the surrounding granite mountains.

The glamorous heart of the Costa Smeralda, famous for luxury yachts, designer boutiques, elegant restaurants, and one of the most beautiful marinas in the Mediterranean.

Even if luxury shopping is not your thing, it's worth visiting for a stroll around the marina and village center. The nearby beaches are among the finest in Sardinia.
Porto Rotondo

An elegant seaside village known for its marina, relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere, charming squares, waterfront restaurants, and beautiful beaches. A perfect destination for experiencing the chic side of northern Sardinia.

Anastasia's Tip
Parking can be very difficult during summer evenings. I recommend arriving before sunset and stopping for a drink at Mamèr while enjoying the lively atmosphere of the village.
Golfo Aranci
20 km from Olbia center
A charming seaside village known for its crystal-clear beaches, relaxed waterfront promenade, and authentic atmosphere. Perfect for those looking for beautiful scenery, fresh seafood restaurants, and spectacular sunsets away from the crowds of the Costa Smeralda.

Anastasia's Tip
Visit Golfo Aranci around sunset and take a walk along the waterfront to the harbor. If you're lucky, you might even spot dolphins close to the shore.
Baja Sardinia

A lively seaside resort in the heart of the Costa Smeralda, famous for its turquoise waters, elegant beach clubs, and glamorous yet more relaxed atmosphere compared to Porto Cervo.

Palau & Porto Rafael
40 km from Olbia center
Palau is the perfect gateway to explore the La Maddalena Archipelago, while Porto Rafael enchants visitors with its whitewashed piazzetta, villas surrounded by nature, and peaceful exclusive atmosphere.

Stop in Porto Rafael shortly before sunset. The views over the sea and the granite rock formations are among the most beautiful in northern Sardinia.
Driving & Parking Around

ZTL Zone (Restricted)
The historic center (Centro Storico) of Olbia has a Zona a Traffico Limitato. Access is restricted to residents and authorized vehicles only, monitored by cameras.
Look for red "ZTL" signs at the entrance of restricted streets.
Blue Lines (Paid)
Blue painted lines mean paid parking. You must purchase a ticket from a nearby machine or use the EasyPark / MyCicero app.
Usually paid Mon–Sat 8:00–13:00 and 15:00–20:00. Free on Sundays and holidays. There should usually be a sign with information in the parking area
White Lines (Free)
White painted lines indicate free parking. These are available further from the center and along secondary roads. No time limit unless otherwise signed.
Yellow lines are reserved for disabled drivers, deliveries, or residents — do not park here.

Skip the ticket machine — these apps let you pay, extend, and stop parking remotely:

Most widely used in Olbia and around (Costa Smeralda). Set your zone and time from your phone.

Also accepted in Olbia's blue zones. Links to your credit card.
Driving Tips for Sardinia
SS125 and SP roads can be narrow and winding — drive slowly, especially at night.
Fuel stations can be scarce outside towns — fill up before heading to remote beaches.
Speed limits: 50 km/h in towns; in Olbia it's 30km/h, 90 km/h on regional roads, 130 km/h on highways
Traffic wardens (vigili urbani) actively fine improper parking in summer
Important Safety Notice
Please do not leave any valuables, bags, electronic devices, passports, wallets, or other personal documents inside your car when parking at the beach or in public parking areas.
Unfortunately, during the summer season, thefts from parked vehicles can occur, particularly involving rental cars, which are often targeted by thieves.
We strongly recommend taking all valuable items and important documents with you and ensuring your vehicle is properly locked at all times.

Main Bus Stop in Olbia
The Bus Stop is at Stazione Olbia-Terranova, the Train Station in via Re di Pisa.
Timetables are posted at the stop and on the ARST website (arstspa.it).
Anastasia's Tip
ARST buses can be infrequent — check the schedule the night before. In summer, some beach lines run extra services. For Porto Cervo and Palau, leave in the morning to have the full day, as return buses may be limited in the evening.
Train (Trenitalia)
Olbia has a train station (Stazione di Olbia) with connections to Cagliari, Sassari, and Nuoro. Trains are slower than buses on many routes but comfortable for long journeys.

Taxi & Rideshare
Local Taxi
Available at the station, port, and airport. Radio taxis can be called. Rates are metered — expect ~€15–20 for trips within Olbia, €25–35 to the airport.
Uber / Bolt
Not widely available in Olbia as of 2024. Do not rely on them. Stick to local taxis or pre-booked transfers for airport trips.
If you want to go to the airport on your departure date by taxi, book it couple of days in advance.
Anastasia's Tip
My honest take: a rental car gives you the most freedom in Sardinia, especially for reaching the best beaches.
But if you’re just based in Olbia, the local buses are perfectly fine for the center and Pittulongu.
For day trips to Porto Cervo or Palau, the ARST bus is a relaxed and affordable option — just plan around the schedule.
